Department of Finance Banking and Insurance

The Risk Management and Insurance major studies risk that deals with protection of wealth or assets and financial planning that deals with managing wealth or assets. The Risk Management and Insurance major explores the identification of potential exposures to loss, measurement and analysis of those loss exposures, methods for handling those loss exposures (methods in addition to insurance), the implementation of the risk management plan and the review and analysis of the risk management process. The Risk Management and Insurance major also explores financial planning which involves identifying personal financial objectives and developing financial plans to meet those financial objectives. Students have the option of pursuing professional designation programs including the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), the Certified Risk Manager (CRM), and the Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
