Hospitality and Tourism Management

Department of Management

This major prepares students for management careers in commercial food service facilities, hotel and lodging properties, conference and resort centers, and convention services. Graduates of hospitality and tourism programs frequently start their careers as management trainees, assistant managers or supervisors. Starting salaries compare favorably with those in other business-related occupations, and the potential for advancement is excellent for the capable individual who is willing to work hard. In some restaurant operations, for example, a junior manager may assume full operation responsibility for a million-dollar-plus profit center in as little as two years following graduation, while commanding a salary significantly exceeding those in other industries.

The following list contains a representative sample of job titles of former graduates with a Hospitality and Tourism Management major. Use this as an idea list, and remember that it represents some, but certainly not all, of the careers you might consider. Some of these jobs also require education beyond a bachelors' degree.
