Department of Finance Banking and Insurance
The finance and banking major prepares students for a broad range of careers in the financial services industry. The major provides extensive study in the following areas: financial planning, banking and financial markets; corporate finance; and, investments. The financial planning program prepares students for careers in financial planning for individuals. Given the aging demographics in the United States, financial planning is one of the hottest career tracks currently available in business. To help students get their careers in financial planning off to a good start, the Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance offers a course of study that will help prepare students to take for the Certified Financial Planner Exam. In the banking and financial markets area, students examine the management decisions needed to successfully operate a bank as a part of the financial services industry. Students are given the skills and knowledge needed to analyze and
make financial decisions in these areas. The area of investments looks at investment opportunities, investment goals, and the management of portfolios. Through the study of the areas mentioned above, students will receive the theoretical foundation needed to analyze financial performance in a variety of business enterprises and learn how the theories are applied in practice.
