Outreach Programs
Peer Career’s outreach program provides creative and interactive presentations to classes, clubs, organizations, and residence halls on career and life planning topics. Students should come prepared to be active participants in the learning process. You can bring your class/group to Peer Career for the outreach or we can come to you.
Outreach Programs:
- Peer Career Tour/Overview
Time: 15 minutes
Group size: Any
This program provides basic information about the Peer Career Center which will enable and encourage students to use the center and its resources.
- Who Am I?
Time: 60 minutes
Group size: 5-30
This program works well with groups who will be completing an assessment inventory as a class assignment in the Peer Career Center. The first step in choosing a major/career is learning about who you are. This workshop will help students learn about themselves so that they can determine which majors/careers might be a good fit for them. Including activities on interests, abilities, values and experiences, this program will leave students with a greater understanding of the importance of knowing who you are before making a major/career decision.
- Discover Your Career
Time: 60 minutes
Group Size: 5-30
Gathering information about majors/careers is a vital step in career planning. This program will help students understand the importance of gathering information on majors/career before making a decision. Students who have some ideas of the majors and careers they are interested in but need more information will derive the most benefit from this program. Students will leave the workshop with a greater understanding of what they can do with majors, what specific careers entail, and how their values fit with majors/careers.
- The World of Work
Time: 60 minutes
Group size: Any
This workshop is for students who have completed the Discover Assessment Inventory and need to process their results. Students will leave this workshop with a greater understanding of how the world of work is organized and how to use their Discover results in the career planning process.
- Decisions, Decisions, Decisions
Time: 60 minutes
Group size: 5-30
Students are consistently concerned about making a wrong decision when choosing a major/career. This program will help students learn about decision-making and how they personally make decisions. Students will also understand the importance of making an informed decision when choosing a major/career. This workshop is ideal for students trying to decide between 2-3 majors and/or careers.
- Activities
You can choose from a variety of activities to enhance the workshop based on the needs of your class/group.
- Multiple Workshop
Your class/group may participate in a series of workshops. These should be arranged at the beginning of the semester for our staff to plan and accommodate your requests.
