Visiting Peer Career

First Visit
Every student who comes to Peer Career is unique, so experiences will vary for each person.

You may need help determining your major or career path. In this situation, plan to spend approximately one hour at Peer Career. During this time, you talk one-on-one with a guide/counselor about your interests, abilities, values, experiences, and personality. You may also take a self-assessment test during this time which will generate a list of possible majors and occupations for you to explore.

If you are coming to Peer Career to do research on your major, career choice, or graduate program, our staff can assist you in locating helpful resources. This process can be as long or as short as you choose.

Subsequent Visits to Peer Career
The initial visit to Peer Career generally leads to subsequent visits to complete career exploration and decision-making. Students are encouraged to use the Peer Career Center as much as they would like.

A student who has completed a self assessment inventory may return to Peer Career to discuss their results and narrow down their lists of majors and/or careers. A part of this process may include utilizing our career exploration library and electronic resources to research major/job requirements, related career titles, related skills, educational requirements, working environment, job outlook and salary.

Other visits may include completing decision making activities to decide between 2-3 majors and/or careers and determining appropriate next steps to being successful in your chosen field.
