Graduate Assistant Information

The Peer Career graduate assistant provides a valuable service to the center by supervising and training paraprofessional undergraduate student volunteers and work study students, overseeing our outreach program and completing various administrative tasks.

The Peer Career GA will work an average of 20 hours per week. The majority of these hours will be spent in Peer Career providing supervision and mentorship to volunteers. Some of these hours will be spent presenting to various clubs, classes and student organizations. One hour will be a staff meeting and one hour will be a supervisor’s meeting.

The graduate assistant is expected to assist in our summer training retreat which is held on the Friday and Saturday after Fall classes begin. The graduate assistant is also expected to familiarize him/herself with Peer Career before the training retreat by spending time in the Peer Career center with a senior staff member.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pre-Semester Training
  • Supervision of 8-10 undergraduate paraprofessional career guides
  • Assist in on-going training with volunteers
  • Serve as a mentorship to volunteers
  • Provide feedback and evaluation to volunteers
  • Plan social activities
  • Supervise volunteer projects
  • Plan and run staff meetings
  • Record staff meeting minutes
  • Serve as a liaison to other departments on campus
  • Schedule guest speakers
  • Plan teambuilding activities
  • Supervise work study students
  • Coordinate outreaches and class assignments
  • Assist in outreaches after hours
  • Assist in campus outreach events-club expo, open house, etc.,
  • Assist in volunteer recruitment
  • Assist in updating Peer Career resources
  • Assist in planning the Majors Fair
  • Other duties/special projects as assigned
